Safety and Durability
Data safety and durability is about managing risk. Here are just some of the risks JesusSaves manages to ensure your data remains safe:
Failed Media
Ever lose a file because it was on a disk or USB key that is no longer readable? JesusSaves uses the ZFS file-system to keep your data on more than one device. When any device fails, a replacement of the device triggers ZFS to replicate your data to the new device, without any loss.
Failed Hardware
Bad cable, drive controller, memory, or CPU modifying your data? Thanks to ZFS, your data is verified when read and written from your disks. In the event of a hardware failure, ZFS will announce the failure, and prevent serving bad data. This notification allows your team to replace the failed device, with no data loss. In the event of a complete system failure, encrypted cloud-based backups provide the ability to completely restore your system just minutes before the failure.
Bit Rot
Physical media has a shelf life. After a while, your data will become unreadable! A single byte modification can cause your entire application to fail due to the data corruption. ZFS is used to periodically verify the “correctness” of your data on disk. When your data is degraded, ZFS announces the failure, and fixes the data for you, without any loss in safety and durability.
